Limay to Paris

F11 gives full page view.

On the way to Limay we set up the spinnaker pole as a mast and used the storm sail to give us an extra half knot. We spent two nights in Limay and I found a chandler where I bought all I needed to seal the hatch to make it watertight. I left my wallet and keys in a fruit shop in Mantes la Jolie on the other side of the river but they were found and kept for me. I decided to lay up Sufiana in Poissy and phoned Pierre to tell him so. He said that he and Paul were both free for a week and could help me to take the boat further. I arranged to phone them from Poissy the next day to confirm this.

Friday morning started misty but soon cleared and we passed a Union Carbide plant belching out smog. We reached Poissy at 1025 and moored for the night = 30 francs. Rick and I took the train back to Rouen to get the dormobile. We also got some provisions and more wine.

From Poissy to Paris was quite a day’s run. We set off at 0620 and passed three locks during the day. As we entered Paris we started looking for the Eiffel tower. It took a long time to appear. At last there it was with the wee Statue of Liberty. Just after we passed the tower Jilly said ‘There’s somebody over there waving at us.’ It was Pierre with Paul on the left bank. Went over and picked them up losing the boat hook in the process.

We moored alongside Itza Purla again at the Touring Club de Paris and discussed how we were to continue. After several plans had been aired Pierre, Paul and I took Sufiana to the next lock on the Seine at Alfortville while Rick, Jilly and Holly went by train to Poissy with one bike to pick up the dormobile. We arranged to meet later in the evening to transfer all their goods to their vehicle. We arrived at the lock at 2000, moored, and went for couscous and Algerian wine at a corner café restaurant The other memorable landmark on this section was Notre Dame. At 2200 the dormobile arrived and we shifted the luggage. When we woke in the morning Rick was gone. We set off up the Seine at 0825.
