21 June Crew Jeff and Ruth. After Rennes we were on the river Villaine which looked just like a river except at the locks where there was a weir alongside to hold up the water The locks were wider too and we reveled in the extra clearance. At Arzal above the final lock we spent the final night in Brittany. We walked a long way to find a restaurant which had closed at 8 pm. Next morning the chandler had only local charts but we did find a guide to the Midi canal. We put the mast up with the aid of a passing sailor who wanted to see the internal layout of the cat. We were able to get provisions from a small supermarket at the boatyard. The lock opens every hour. We decided to pass at 10 am after looking for someone to pay the mooring fee. As it was Sunday there were quite a few yachts on the move but none kept up with us once we got the sails up.
